REVELATIONS
When he opened the sixth seal, I looked, and behold, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth, the full moon became like blood, and the stars of the sky fell to the earth as the fig tree sheds its winter fruit when shaken by a gale; the sky vanished like a scroll that is rolled up, and every mountain and island was removed from its place ... - Revelation 6:12-14.
The signs are evident. We have a German Pope. The Red Sox won the World Series. Phil Mickelson won a major. Joe Kennedy shot an 88. Dave Hatherley was actually funny in a recent e-mail and finally, after 35 years, we have the North Shore Golf League’s first hole-in-one. Like one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse unleashed, the ball left the 6 iron of none other than Steve Marino, gracefully landed upon the 16th green and disappeared into the hole. According to first hand accounts, Steve was left speechless; another sign that the end is near. The loudest whoop could be heard from partner Jeff Kaplan. You would think that he was happy for Steve but in reality he was thinking about the mandatory free drink at the end of the round. Also witnesses to the event were the stunned opponents, Bill Driscoll and Mark Chan. (If you have any doubts about how stunned they were, take a look at how many points they took last week!) Mark did the honorable thing and congratulated Steve while Bill unleashed a string of expletives that would make Beelzebub himself blush. Being a true gentleman, Steve stuck around after golf and insured that everyone, including Bill, received the drink of their choice. The Editors of Foreplay would like to add our congratulations to Steve while cautioning you that you can be sure Armageddon is upon us if Paul shows up tonight with the money from the hole in-one pool!.

Yes, by know you know the story but it bears repeating. Jackie got to the fifth hole last Friday, peered into the sun and hit a towering shot. Lost in the sun, he couldn’t see the ball land. His playing partners said they thought it went by the hole. Much to his surprise, Jackie found it nestled in the cup. Congratulations, John on becoming only the second player in the history of the North Shore Golf League to score a hole in one in a League sanctioned event.
In typical Cazoo fashion, there was little immediate outward emotion on achieving this rare golfing feat. Later according to sources, he was quoted as saying: “It’s better than food or sex”. To his credit, John kept the bar open throughout the partner drawing.

HO...HUM…ANOTHER HOLE IN ONE….YAWN
Those who played last Friday and the regular readers of the website are aware that Barry Higgins became the third member of the North Shore Golf League and the second this year to score a hole in one. According to the one witness, Mark Chan, the tee shot hit left of the pin, went to the right and in. Barry described it as “I hit the ball and it dribbled into the hole”. Barry said he turned around and said “It’s in!” as he raised his hands in a victory sign. Barry used a 7 iron to hit his Titleist 1 the 148 yards to the hole. Unfortunately, Barry was not able to show the ball to anyone because instead of putting it in his pocket he used it on the Par 3 17th. Again he hit left but this time he hit the side of the green and the ball ‘dribbled’ into the drink. As mentioned earlier, Mark Chan was the only witness because opponents Theresa Gorey and Karen Murphy were no shows. (Actually, Barry doesn’t even know if he won the hole). Ranger Tom, who was in the area, did not see the shot but did verify that the ball was in the hole. Word is that Barry in all the excitement did not fix his ball mark. Barry gave the league an open bar but the barmaid was giving credit for the shot to Barry lookalike Ben Dicenso. Ben willingly accepted all the congratulations for Barry but drew the line at paying for the drinks. In other news, Dave Hatherley almost had a hole in one on the fifth hole, but his tee shot was short of the green and to the right
Anyway, Congratulations |
